There’s nothing like some good old steam to open up those pores and give your face some much needed pampering. Getting a facial every 28 days is ideal to keep the cycle of skin cell regeneration going, and even detoxify your skin.

But if you’re not in the mood to head to the parlour, we’ve got some easy and relaxing home recipes for your own facial aromatherapy. And guess what, they’re super easy!

Getting the right oils

When you’re choosing the oil, make sure you get the right kind for your skin-type. If you’re looking to get your collection of oils ready for a round of facial with the girls, that’s great, but still important to know work for different skin types.

Two Ways to a Decent Home Facial

If you’re in the mood for some intense face love, then there’s a couple of ways you make this happen whether you’re with your girls or enjoying an evening by yourself.

The Massage

The Massage is a beautiful, and soothing way to to complete your session. Choose the essential oil based on your skin-type, and mix five drops of it with every 30 ml of carrier oil. Carrier oils like grapeseed, jojoba, and rosehip are pretty good in keeping your skin looking flawless and young.

Once you have your mix ready, you can start with your blissful DIY aromatherapy face massage, by cleaning your face with thoroughly with water and pat it dry with a nice, clean towel.

When you’re feeling all good and ready, take a small amount of your oil bled, and start gently applying it on your face. Margo Marrone has an opinion on how you should massage your face, and in her book ‘The Organic Pharmacy’, she talks about the need to start at the center of your brow, and swiping downwards from there.

When you move the oils down toward your ears and neck on either side, move your fingers under your eyes, and start with the same downward swipe again.

Spend your time using this technique to cover your neck, cheeks, ears, until you begin to really just relax and feel the goodness of the oils seep into your skin.

The Steam Solution

Another easy, no-hassle way to show your beautiful face some much needed love and attention, is to go the DIY steam solution.

Begin by placing a jar of water on the stove to boil. While the water is doing its thing, you can head to the bathroom and cleanse your face well, patting it dry with a fresh towel.

Take the water and pour it into a clean bowl you should place somewhere firm, like the table, so that you can lean comfortably.

Dazzle your bowl of hot water with 5-6 drops of the essential oil of your choice (based on your skin type of course), and you can even throw in a few herbs to set your senses on a high!

Now that your set-up is ready, throw a towel over your head, and lean over the bowl, making a little tent of dome with your towel.

That’s it! Let the essential oil and herb induced steam to the magic. Feel your pores loosen and your face elevate from the sensation of your homemade- chemical free DIY solution!
