The much awaited 2015 Oscars finally happened and oh! what a fashion extravaganza it was! The red carpet shone with A-listers in embellished gowns and statement jewellery, and was dominated by whites and nudes. Here are the night’s top trends:
White and Monochrome Gowns.
Showpiece-eque white and silver gowns with intricate texture play and embellishments, without a doubt, were the biggest trend of the night.
Lupita Nyong’o’s pearl-encrusted halter gown from Calvin Klein Collection, Marion Cotillard’s Dior Haute Couture honey comb-esque textured gown with a modern black bustle at the back and Best Actress winner Julianne Moore’s black-and-white Chanel Haute Couture, were all stunning and each made a statement louder than the other. As far as monochromes go, Reese Witherspoon totally stole the spotlight in a sleek Tom Ford number.
Then Came The Blush
Blush-toned and nude gowns were ubiquitous and the only ones to give stiff competition to the whites. The Jennifers set the red carpet ablaze. While J.Lo dazzled in this out-of-a-fairytale Ellie Saab, Aniston stunned in a beaded nude Atelier Versace column.
Statement Neck Pieces
The statement neckpiece made a comeback this year and how! Scarlett Johansson looked smouldering hot in an emerald green Swarovski crystal collared custom Atelier Versace and Cate Blanchet, as usual, rocked the Oscar’s red carpet but this year she let her turquoise Tiffany & Co. necklace do all the talking.
Nude Make-up
If nude gowns were trending so was nude make-up. From nude lips, to dewy skin, the evening saw most stars keep it simple and close to natural. Rosamund Pike looked flawless in a fresh-faced look and so did Cate Blanchett.
Bold and Dark Lips
The Lip is where the colour was. Reds, wine, berry and cabernets dominated. Dakota Johnson and Margot Robbie looked amazing in a vibrant red lip and Naomi Watts worked the vampy berry lip to perfection.
Sleek Hair
The 87th Academy Awards was all about sleek hair. Sleek up-dos and ponytails ruled the evening and added extra glam. Behati Prinsloo looked striking in her super-sleek knot and Gwyneth Paltrow looked breathtakingly beautiful in her sleek hair.
